The theme of the Summer School:
The 2015 Summer School of Nordic-Baltic Doctoral Network in Social Work will focus on questions of local and global. The theme of the summer school
“Connecting the global and local: the challenge for social work research”
refers to the tension between the local-specific nature of social work research and the interests of the international community of scholars. Taking often responsibility for topical problems and needs in local, regional and national contexts the research of social work deals mainly with limited themes without wider relevance in the international context. How to balance between the place-specific needs of knowledge and the wider scientific interests in writing, reporting and publishing? The summer school offers opportunities for reflecting own research activities from the point of view of connecting global and local. In addition to substantial issues, attention will be paid especially to conceptual, epistemological and methodological considerations. These issues will be connected to writing, reporting and publishing about place-relevant topics in international publications.
The summer school will each day contain a mixture of keynote presentations related to the theme of the summer school and workshops where the PhD students present and discuss their work under the guidance of experienced researchers/keynote speakers.
